“India Tops List as Global Population Hits 8.2 Billion in 2025”

By Okafor Joseph

The global population reached 8 billion in 2022, according to United Nations estimates, doubling from 3 billion in 1959 to 6 billion by 1999. Growth peaked in the late 1960s at an annual rate of 2.09% but is projected to slow to 0.85% in 2025, adding approximately 70 million people each year.

Projections indicate that the global population will reach 9 billion by 2037 and 10 billion by 2060, while growth rates continue to decline. By 2047, the growth rate is expected to drop below 0.50%, potentially reaching zero in 2084 and declining to -0.12% by 2100.

As of January 2025, the world population stands at 8,198,884,355. Among the nations contributing to this growth, countries like India, China, and the United States lead the list.
