Independence Day 2025: NSCDC Deploys 4,500 Officers to Secure Abuja Ahead of 65th Anniversary

Story:
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 4,500 personnel across Abuja to guarantee safety and order during Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day celebrations on October 1.
Commandant Olusola Odumosu announced the deployment on Monday, stating that the operation is aimed at protecting lives, property, and critical national assets before, during, and after the anniversary.
According to him, the deployment includes specialized units such as the Female Strike Force, Arms Squad, Operation Adakasu, the Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) unit, and the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives (CBRNE) team.
Strategic Security Coverage
Personnel have been stationed at key locations and soft targets, including shopping malls, recreation centres, prayer grounds, markets, motor parks, amusement parks, the City Gate, the Three Arms Zone, government offices, and other sensitive sites that host national assets.
Odumosu added that undercover operatives have already been dispatched across the city to conduct covert surveillance and prevent potential threats. Uncompleted buildings and identified “black spots” suspected to shelter criminals are also under strict watch.
“All hands must be on deck. I will not tolerate any form of security breach. Area Commanders and Divisional Officers must ensure their presence is visible in every jurisdiction,” he directed.
Warning Against Misconduct
The Commandant charged officers to operate professionally and in coordination with other security agencies, cautioning them against intimidation, harassment, or accidental discharges during operations.
He assured Abuja residents of a peaceful Independence Day celebration, while urging them to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious movements or individuals.
“Our personnel are ready to secure Abuja during the festivities. But residents also have a responsibility to be observant and work with security agencies for the safety of all,” Odumosu said.
