Ilorin Man Seeks Divorce After 17 Years of Loveless Marriage, Cites Emotional Disconnection

Ilorin, Nigeria – June 19, 2025
A resident of Temidire Community in the Oko-Olowo area of Ilorin, Moshood Kolobo, has filed for the dissolution of his 17-year marriage, claiming that the union with his wife, Hafsat Kolobo, has become emotionally disconnected and void of love.
Moshood made his case before the Area Court in Centre-Igboro on Wednesday, stating that he no longer wishes to continue the Islamic marriage due to a complete lack of emotional intimacy and affection.
“I am no longer interested in the marriage. There is no love or connection between us anymore,” he told the court.
In response, the wife, Hafsat, who appeared visibly shocked, pleaded with the court for more time to process the situation. She claimed she was summoned to court without being informed of the full details of the case.
“This came as a shock. After 17 years together and five children, I am asking the court to give me two weeks to respond properly,” Hafsat said.
The Presiding Judge, Mr. Toyin Aluko, granted her request and adjourned the case to June 23, 2025, for further mention.
The couple’s story has sparked public interest, with many expressing concern over the growing number of long-term marriages ending in divorce due to emotional neglect.
