The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has praised former Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, for fostering tolerance, open dialogue, and freedom of speech during his time in office.
Kalu made the remarks in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Levinus Nwabughiogu, to mark Ikpeazu’s 61st birthday celebration.
According to the statement, Ikpeazu’s administration was marked by peace, inclusivity, and respect for differing opinions — attributes Kalu described as essential for democracy and good governance.
“Dr. Ikpeazu’s government provided space for opposition voices to be heard and upheld the values of free speech, allowing dissent without fear or intimidation,” the Deputy Speaker said.
Kalu further commended the former governor’s humility and listening nature, which he said endeared him to the people of Abia and contributed to his reputation as a leader with a human touch.
He added that Ikpeazu’s administration recorded notable progress in infrastructure development, setting the stage for long-term growth and prosperity in the state.
“His commitment to building bridges of understanding and development remains commendable. Abia continues to benefit from the solid foundation he laid,” Kalu said.
