The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has summoned House of Representatives member Alex Mascot Ikwechegh for allegedly assaulting a Bolt driver in Abuja. Sources reveal that Ikwechegh is currently being questioned by the FCT Commissioner of Police as investigations continue.
The incident, captured in a viral video circulating on social media, shows Ikwechegh, representing Aba North and South Federal Constituency of Abia State, engaged in a heated confrontation with the e-hailing taxi driver. The driver reportedly visited Ikwechegh’s residence for a delivery, which sparked a dispute when the lawmaker insisted the driver was “disrespectful” for requesting he come out to receive the item.
In the footage, Ikwechegh is seen slapping the driver multiple times, hurling insults, and making bold threats. “I can make you disappear from Nigeria,” Ikwechegh allegedly declared, dismissing any potential repercussions. He further told the driver that his political position would protect him from any consequences, even if the driver reported the incident to the Inspector General of Police.
Witnesses say the lawmaker not only refused to pay the driver but also destroyed his phone and tore his clothes, adding to the physical and emotional distress inflicted. Ikwechegh allegedly threatened to imprison the driver in his generator house to “teach him a lesson.”
As public outcry intensifies over the incident, police officials assure that a thorough investigation is underway.
