Nigeria’s celebrity chef Hilda Baci has once again secured her place in the Guinness World Records, this time for preparing and serving the largest single portion of Nigerian-style jollof rice, weighing a remarkable 8,780 kilograms.

The record-breaking feat, achieved in collaboration with food brand Gino Nigeria, took place on Friday, September 12, in Victoria Island, Lagos. Thousands of excited spectators gathered at the event, where music, entertainment, and the irresistible aroma of jollof rice filled the air.
Confirming the achievement, Guinness World Records announced on Monday via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle:
“New record: Largest serving of Nigerian style jollof rice – 8,780 kg (19,356 lb 9 oz) achieved by Hilda Baci and Gino in Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria.”
To meet Guinness standards, the chef and her team carefully measured ingredients, using over 4,000 kg of basmati rice, 164 kg of goat meat, 220 kg of Gino cubes, 600 kg of pepper mix, and 1,200 kg of cooking gas. After nine hours of continuous cooking, the massive pot yielded 16,600 plates of steaming jollof rice, which were shared with attendees under strict no-waste guidelines.
Speaking after the event, Hilda admitted the task was tougher than she expected:
“It was challenging and exhausting, but the joy of accomplishing this with Nigerians supporting me makes it worth it. This record is not mine alone, it belongs to all of us.”

Crowds who had been eagerly waiting broke into chants of “Hilda, we want jollof” before being served portions of the historic dish. Videos shared on her Instagram page captured the excitement of fans who praised both the taste and the achievement.
While Guinness already has a category for the largest serving of Ghanaian jollof rice, it currently has no record holder. Hilda’s achievement therefore not only celebrates Nigerian culinary pride but also strengthens the country’s dominance in the famous “jollof rivalry” across West Africa.
Hilda previously made international headlines in May 2023, when she set the record for the longest individual cooking marathon, lasting 93 hours and 11 minutes. Although that record has since been surpassed, her latest triumph reaffirms her reputation as one of Africa’s most influential chefs and record breakers.
