The brutal killing occurred on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at “Angle 90” motor park in Auchi, the administrative center of Etsako West Local Government Area. Eyewitnesses said the assailants stormed the park and gunned him down at his duty post, causing chaos and panic among passengers and bystanders who fled for safety.
Rising Tension as Aye-Vikings Cult War Escalates in Auchi
According to local sources, the murder is believed to be part of an escalating conflict between rival cult groups—Aye and Vikings confraternities. Reports suggest the late AK was a former member of the Aye group who had since distanced himself from cult-related activities.
An anonymous resident described him as a peaceful and hard-working individual devoted to his job and family, adding that his past ties to Aye might have made him a target in the current wave of reprisal attacks by Vikings members.
“This incident is allegedly linked to a failed assassination attempt on an Aye leader in Uzairue community earlier this week, which may have sparked the ongoing violence,” the source disclosed.
Police Confirm Incident, Launch Manhunt for Suspects
The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the incident. Police Public Relations Officer, Moses Yamu, stated on Sunday that the victim’s body has been deposited at the mortuary, and investigations are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing gunmen.
Yamu noted that the command is intensifying efforts to restore peace in the affected communities and bring those responsible to justice.
Community Demands Urgent Government, Security Intervention
Residents and community leaders in Auchi have called on the Edo State Government and security agencies to intervene swiftly to prevent further bloodshed.
“The people of Auchi are living in fear. We need immediate security reinforcement to stop this madness. Innocent lives are being lost because of cult rivalries,” one concerned resident pleaded.
The crisis has reportedly spilled into nearby areas, with the Uzairue community becoming a hotspot following the botched attack on an Aye cult leader. Tensions remain high as fear of further retaliatory attacks lingers.
