Two weeks after FIJ published a story detailing how GTBank was holding on to foreign-based student Folami Ajibola’s N100,000, deducted following a duplicate transaction on October 11, the bank has not shown any willignness to refund money.
Ajibola told FIJ on Monday that on November 6 when the story was published, he received a response from the bank via its Twitter handle.
In the response, the bank said, “Please note that we have followed up with your complaint and a feedback will be provided once received.”
Since that day, he said, the bank had not addressed his complaint and was still holding on to his money.

“I would like to let you know that my money is still stuck with GTBank. I only got a response from them via their Twitter handle since the story was published,” Ajibola said.
“Within 30 minutes after the story was published on November 6, they reached out to me and that gave me hopes that they were going to refund my money quickly.
“I have pinned my hopes on his money to settle some personal needs on campus, but it seems I have a long time ahead as the bank is not refunding the money.
“I used to trust the bank. They have frustrated me enough. I honestly think they are intentionally doing this to steal my money.”
FIJ had published a story on how Ajibola made a duplicate transaction on his GTBank account on October 11 while transferring N100,000 to his Msport betting account
However, few minutes after, there was a debit alert notification from the bank for the first transaction that had initially failed.
A bank insider would later reveal that the transaction was marked duplicate by the bank. Despite this, GTB has not refunded the excess money
