Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has reassured parents and residents that his administration is working tirelessly with security agencies to secure the safe return of the pupils, students, and staff abducted from St. Mary’s Catholic School, Papiri, in Agwara Local Government Area.
Expressing profound sympathy, the governor said he deeply shares in the pain and distress of parents whose children were taken during the November 21, 2025 attack carried out by suspected bandits. During the assault, the attackers reportedly shot and injured security personnel before marching 265 victims into the forest.
Speaking at an executive retreat for commissioners-designate, chairmen-elect, special advisers, and permanent secretaries at Government House, Minna, Governor Bago described the incident as “heartbreaking and unacceptable.”
He stated: “Before we proceed with today’s sessions, I must address a matter that touches every one of us—the tragic abduction of schoolchildren and teachers from St. Mary’s Catholic School, Papiri. This incident has caused great concern across our state.”
The governor emphasized his commitment, noting: “As the chief security officer of the state—and as a parent—I understand the agony of families waiting for their children to return. I assure you that we are working round the clock to protect our children and secure their freedom.”
