Ghana’s national football team, the Black Stars, has officially secured qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, becoming the latest African nation to book a spot at the global tournament.
Heading into their final Group I match against Comoros on Sunday, the Ghanaians needed just a draw to confirm their place, having topped the group with a three-point lead over Madagascar and a superior goal difference.
After a tense first half that ended goalless, Mohammed Kudus broke the deadlock in the second half, finishing off a neat team play initiated by Thomas Partey. The goal proved decisive, sealing Ghana’s victory and World Cup qualification.
With the result, Ghana ended their campaign as group leaders, while Madagascar finished second on 19 points and Mali placed third with 18 points.
The qualification marks Ghana’s fifth World Cup appearance, as Otto Addo’s men look to make a strong statement on the global stage in 2026.
