Nollywood actress Genevieve Nnaji has fired back at a provocative tweet suggesting that Igbo men should avoid marrying women from their own ethnic group.

The tweet advised Igbo men to seek wives from East Africa, particularly Rwanda, to avoid being falsely accused of abusing their daughters by Igbo women.

“Dear Igbo men, instead of marrying Igbo women that’ll falsely accuse you of raping your daughter, better look outside for a wife… Go to East Africa, especially Rwanda and pick a damsel,” the post read.

Responding, Nnaji, who hails from Mbaise, Imo State, called out the problematic advice:
“In other words, instead of checking yourself and taking accountability, go for the unsuspecting and carry on with your evil. Got it.”

While some defended the tweet as targeting false accusers rather than all women, Nnaji emphasized the dangers of generalizations:
“The same way a woman can’t tell an abusive man apart from a good one is the same way you shouldn’t say avoid all Igbo women. Not all women,” she added.

Her response sparked discussions on social media about accountability, gender stereotypes, and the dangers of sweeping ethnic generalization
