Galetti: Chelsea to Target Osimhen in January Transfer Window After Summer Setback

By Okafor Joseph – September 17, 2024

Football transfer expert Rudy Galetti has hinted that Chelsea will bide their time and attempt to sign Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen during the January transfer window.

Recall that the Nigerian international striker joined Galatasaray this summer from Napoli, despite Chelsea’s determined efforts to secure his signature. The Blues had pushed hard but ultimately fell short in their bid to lure the forward to Stamford Bridge.

In an exclusive chat with Tribal Football, Galetti revealed that Osimhen had initially given his approval to join Chelsea. However, the proposed deal — which included cash and the addition of Cesare Casadei — did not meet Napoli’s demands. The Italian side had their eyes set on other targets, such as Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour.

“The disappointment within Chelsea’s management remains strong after the events two weeks ago. Reportedly, a preliminary agreement had been reached between Chelsea and Osimhen’s representatives, with the Blues already in talks with Napoli to finalise the terms. Victor had given his approval to join Chelsea, but the offer on the table – cash plus Cesare Casadei – did not satisfy Napoli, who had already started pursuing Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour. Even discussions around a loan with an obligation to buy failed to meet Napoli’s expectations, as the payment terms proposed by Chelsea were deemed too deferred over time,” Galetti shared.

For now, it seems Chelsea are willing to play the waiting game, hoping for a better opportunity in the next transfer window. Meanwhile, Osimhen has quickly endeared himself to the fans at Galatasaray, where he’s already making an impact. In his debut match, he notched an assist, further proving his quality and potential to thrive in any league.

The striker’s situation remains one to watch as January approaches, with Chelsea still eager to bring him to London.
