Four herders and nine cattle have been killed in a new wave of violence that struck Bokkos and Bassa Local Government Areas of Plateau State on Tuesday. Several homes were also set ablaze during the attacks, which have intensified tensions across the region.

According to local sources, five other individuals—including two women—sustained gunshot injuries and are currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Bokkos.

The attacks happened just hours after the gruesome killing of seven family members in Kopmur community, located in the Mushere District of Bokkos LGA. The victims were reportedly ambushed and murdered in their home.

Earlier this week, SpringNewsNG reported the killing of Reverend Mikang Lekyil, a Christian clergyman who was shot dead by suspected kidnappers in Kwakas village. His wife and another woman were also injured in the assault.

In the aftermath of the clergyman’s murder, a Fulani settlement in Dingak community was allegedly set on fire—raising fears of retaliatory violence and deepening ethnic tensions in the state.

The latest incidents mark a disturbing escalation in Plateau State’s ongoing conflict, as communities continue to reel from recurring attacks and growing insecurity.
