Suspected armed bandits have once again launched an attack on Oyate community in Oro-Ago axis of Ifelodun Local Government Area in Kwara State, intensifying security concerns in the region.
The latest incident, which occurred on Monday, marks the second attempted invasion of the community within two weeks. Residents were thrown into panic as the attackers fired gunshots sporadically in an effort to intimidate locals, although no major casualties were reported.
Sources revealed that the same community was targeted days earlier during a Friday prayer session, but local security operatives and vigilantes successfully repelled the attackers.
Security insiders disclosed that the assailants are believed to have infiltrated the area from neighboring Kogi State, taking advantage of the shared boundary between both states to carry out cross-border attacks on vulnerable communities.
The repeated assaults have raised concerns about the effectiveness of ongoing security operations, including ‘Operation Savannah Shield’ launched by the Nigerian Army to combat criminal activities in the area.
Despite these efforts, residents say the persistent attacks highlight the need for stronger surveillance, intelligence gathering, and rapid response strategies to safeguard lives and property.
