Lagos Police Arrest Four in N500 Million Canada, Australia Visa Fraud Scheme
The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended four individuals in connection with a large-scale visa scam totaling N500 million. The suspects were arrested by officers from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) following reports of fraudulent activities targeting aspiring travelers.
According to a statement released on Wednesday, July 17, 2025, by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the suspects are staff members of an educational consultancy firm located in the Ago Okota area of Lagos State.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly defrauded over 100 unsuspecting victims, promising them job placements and work visas for Canada and Australia.
Hundeyin noted that the investigation has also exposed a broader criminal syndicate involved in the scam. Authorities are now intensifying efforts to apprehend additional suspects connected to the operation.
“The Command is committed to ensuring justice is served and that all those involved in this scam are brought to book,” Hundeyin stated.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Adegoke Fayoade, has urged the public to exercise caution and verify the credibility of travel and recruitment agencies before engaging in any visa-related transactions.
The suspects, whose ages range from 23 to 36, were initially reported at the Ago Okota Police Division before the case was escalated to the SCID for in-depth investigation.
The police have assured that efforts are ongoing to recover the stolen funds and secure justice for the victims.
