Forty-year-old Serena Williams secures her first win in 430 days

She’s won 23 Grand Slams and is one of the greatest players of all time, but Serena Williams passed another important milestone recently winning her first game in over a year
Williams hadn’t won since the 2021 French Open and turned 40 last September, but showed she’s still got it today at the Toronto Open, beating Nuria Parrizas-Diaz in straight sets
Sweeping past the Spaniard in less than two hours as she prepares for a tilt at the US Open, aiming for a ninth title at Flushing Meadows.
The tournament starts in on August 29, which would’ve marked over 450 winless days for Williams had she not broken her streak, setting up a second round game against either number 12 seed Belinda Bencic or Tereza Martincov
The win marks another significant milestone – her first win since her split with coach Patrick Mouratoglou.
The Frenchman parted ways with Williams following her decision not to compete in this year’s French Open and he now trains former world No.1 Simona Halep.
