Residents of Kamba in Dandi Local Government Area of Kebbi State have welcomed the launch of a new Fidelity Bank Plc branch, describing it as a significant development that will reduce the long-standing banking difficulties faced by farmers, traders and other residents in the community.
The Chairman of Dandi Local Government Council, Dr. Mansur Isah-Kamba, said the new branch would greatly ease the burden on residents who previously travelled to Birnin Kebbi to carry out basic banking activities. Represented by the Council Secretary, Alhaji Abdulkadir Muhammad, the council chairman noted that even more than 80 traditional rulers on the local government payroll had to make the long journey for routine financial transactions.
He explained that the establishment of the bank within the community would save time, cut transportation costs and improve access to financial services for residents.
Also speaking, the Sarkin Shikon of Kamba, Alhaji Mahmoud Zarumai-Fana, noted that agriculture remains the dominant occupation in the area and expressed confidence that the presence of a banking institution would enhance economic activities.
According to him, farmers require support such as fertilisers, pesticides and irrigation equipment, and easier access to banking services would help them save money, obtain loans and benefit from agricultural intervention programmes.
At the official inauguration of the branch, the Regional Bank Head for the North-West Region of Fidelity Bank Plc, Mr. Muhammad Lawal-Ahijo, said the bank’s decision to establish the branch reflects its commitment to expanding financial access and supporting grassroots economic growth.
He explained that Kamba’s strong agricultural base made it an important location for the bank’s expansion strategy. He added that the branch would provide residents, traders and farmers with reliable financial services needed to grow their businesses and strengthen the local economy.
Lawal-Ahijo further stated that Fidelity Bank remains committed to supporting the informal sector and small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs) by bringing banking services closer to underserved communities.
Similarly, the member representing Dandi Constituency in the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Dr. Abubakar Suleiman-Fana, described the new branch as a major step forward in promoting financial inclusion in rural areas.
He encouraged farmers, youths and traders in the constituency to take advantage of the banking services to expand their businesses and improve their economic conditions.
Residents also shared their excitement about the development. A petty trader, Mrs. Hassana Abubakar, said the new branch would save her the stress of travelling to Birnin Kebbi for transactions.
She explained that she previously had to shut down her shop for an entire day to visit the bank, but with the new branch in Kamba, she can now carry out transactions without interrupting her business.
The establishment of the Fidelity Bank branch in Kamba highlights the bank’s commitment to deepening financial inclusion, supporting rural economies and providing financial solutions for farmers, traders and small businesses across Nigeria.
Fidelity Bank Plc is one of Nigeria’s leading commercial banks, serving more than 10 million customers through its digital platforms, 255 business offices across Nigeria and its United Kingdom subsidiary, FidBank UK Limited.
