FG Deploys Passport Intervention Team to UK to Clear Backlog, Ease Diaspora Applications
The Federal Government has deployed a dedicated Passport Intervention Team from the headquarters of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to the United Kingdom to address pending passport applications and improve access to passport services for Nigerians living in the country.
The NIS said the intervention is part of ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to streamline passport processing and reduce delays experienced by Nigerians in the diaspora.
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, directed the Comptroller General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, to deploy the intervention team to the UK.
The team is expected to arrive in the United Kingdom on Monday, August 10, 2026, and will work in collaboration with the Nigerian High Commission to process and issue pending passports, as well as facilitate new applications and renewals.
As part of the exercise, the team will visit designated cities across the United Kingdom to conduct passport enrolment and processing, allowing eligible applicants in different parts of the country to access the intervention.
According to the Immigration Service, the exercise is open to Nigerians with pending passport applications, first-time applicants and existing passport holders whose documents have less than one year remaining before expiry and who wish to commence the renewal process.
Applicants are required to present their completed passport application forms and proof of payment at the point of enrolment.
However, the NIS cautioned applicants against visiting any location before the official release of the intervention schedule.
The Service said details of the exercise, including the cities to be visited, dates, venues and enrolment times, would be announced separately through its official communication channels.
The NIS advised applicants to wait for the official schedule and monitor the communication channels of the Nigerian High Commission in the United Kingdom for further information.
