The Federal Government, through the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), has designated all correctional centres across the nation as “High-Security Red Zones” in preparation for Monday’s planned protests calling for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

In a statement released on Sunday by the Service’s spokesperson, Umar Abubakar, the NCoS cautioned that all prison facilities are restricted areas, warning that anyone found loitering near or attempting to access these premises without authorization will be treated as a security threat.

“All correctional facilities are hereby declared Red Zones. Members of the public without official business should stay away to prevent security incidents,” the statement read.

The Service urged Nigerians to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement agencies during the demonstrations, stressing that the decision was a preventive security measure aimed at protecting correctional institutions, staff, and inmates from possible attacks or infiltration based on intelligence reports.
