The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has given approval for two foreign loan packages totaling $396 million to boost humanitarian relief and healthcare services in northern Nigeria.
Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, revealed this while briefing journalists after Thursday’s FEC meeting held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja and chaired by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He explained that the first loan is a $300 million credit facility from the World Bank intended to support internally displaced persons (IDPs) and communities hosting them in several northern states.
The second package consists of a combined $96 million financing arrangement from the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and the African Development Bank (AfDB). The IsDB will provide $50 million, while AfDB will contribute $46 million to fund the Sokoto Health Infrastructure Project, with the Sokoto State Government expected to supply counterpart funding.
Edun said the funding will help rehabilitate conflict-affected communities and improve access to quality healthcare across the region.
