Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has said that President Bola Tinubu should not be blamed for the internal crisis tearing apart the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking on Channels Television’s “Politics Today” on Wednesday, Fayose dismissed claims that the president had a hand in the wave of defections rocking the opposition party, describing such accusations as misplaced.
He stated that the PDP’s current troubles are self-inflicted, insisting that the party has lost its relevance in Nigeria’s political landscape.
“The PDP is already dead. I won’t be part of those trying to resurrect it,” Fayose declared.
The former governor further revealed that many of the remaining PDP governors are already considering defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“It would be unfair to blame Tinubu for the defection of Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, and Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, to the APC,” he added.
Fayose’s remarks come amid growing concerns within the PDP over its shrinking influence, following a series of high-profile defections that have weakened the party’s presence ahead of the 2027 general elections.
