August 7, 2025 – Abuja, Nigeria – The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has launched a formal investigation into an alleged breach of airport security protocol involving Fuji music legend Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate.

According to FAAN, the incident occurred on Monday, August 5, during the boarding of a ValueJet Airlines flight (VK 201) from Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, to Lagos. The veteran musician reportedly attempted to board the flight with a flask containing alcohol, contravening aviation regulations that restrict passengers from carrying liquids exceeding 100 milliliters in hand luggage.

In a statement released on Wednesday, August 6, signed by Obiageli Orah, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, FAAN said Ayinde refused to comply with repeated warnings from Aviation Security (AVSEC) officers and the flight captain.

“During boarding, the passenger attempted to carry an unidentified liquid substance on board despite repeated warnings,” FAAN stated. “He allegedly refused to cooperate and poured the liquid—confirmed to be alcohol—on an officer.”

The situation escalated when the musician was seen, in a now-viral social media video, standing in front of the aircraft and refusing to vacate the boarding area, prompting security intervention. The AVSEC crime unit later escorted him away for further questioning.

The aviation agency emphasized that the regulation aligns with both Nigeria’s National Civil Aviation Security Programme and Annex 17 of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), which clearly prohibits liquids above 100 ml on board unless medically required and properly declared.

“The safety and security of passengers, crew, and airport personnel remain non-negotiable,” FAAN said. “We will not tolerate any conduct that threatens aviation safety or violates established procedures, regardless of status or public recognition.”

The statement confirmed that the flight was not delayed and that Wasiu Ayinde was released after preliminary investigations. Further action, FAAN added, would depend on the outcome of ongoing inquiries, and all individuals found culpable would be held accountable under the law.
