EPL: Maresca Lists Three Key Chelsea Stars He Can’t Field in Every Match

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has highlighted three crucial players in his squad, noting that their importance does not mean they can be featured in every fixture.

Speaking after Chelsea’s 3-1 loss to Leeds United at Elland Road on Wednesday night, the Italian coach said Wesley Fofana, Moises Caicedo, and Reece James are vital members of the team but must be managed carefully due to their fitness concerns.

Maresca explained that squad rotation is necessary to avoid overworking players who are still vulnerable to recurring injuries.

He said:
“We rotate because some players simply cannot play every two or three days. When we make changes, the level drops—that’s the truth—because these are top players, not just for us but for any team.

“Moi, Reece, Wes—these kinds of players are very important. But we cannot use them in every match. It’s impossible. Otherwise, they could get injured again and be out for months.”
