Emir Sanusi Cautions Katsina Communities on Peace Deals With Bandits, Warns Against Spillover Attacks

The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has urged communities in Katsina State involved in negotiated peace arrangements with bandits to ensure such agreements do not give armed groups the freedom to launch attacks on neighbouring states.

In several parts of the North, especially in Katsina, dialogue meetings with bandits have become routine — with armed men often appearing at such gatherings openly carrying sophisticated weapons. Residents say that whenever a peace truce is reached in one community, surrounding areas begin to fear retaliatory or spillover attacks.

Emir Sanusi warned that while local peace deals may bring temporary calm, they should not create safe passage for criminal elements to move into other states and wreak havoc.

He issued the caution during a visit to Bagwai and Shanono Local Government Areas of Kano State, where bandits recently carried out deadly assaults. The monarch sympathized with affected families and condemned the rising insecurity affecting border communities.
