Real Madrid were forced to fight back twice as they settled for a 2–2 draw against Elche on Sunday night — a result that denied Los Blancos the chance to reopen a three-point gap at the top of La Liga.
The first half saw both teams create promising chances, but a mix of wasteful finishing and sharp saves from Iñaki Peña and Thibaut Courtois kept the match goalless heading into the break.
Madrid began the second half with more intensity, yet it was Elche who struck first.
Aleix Febas capped off a fluent team move to give the home side the lead.
Los Blancos responded when Dean Huijsen diverted Jude Bellingham’s goal-bound effort into the net to make it 1–1.
However, former Madrid academy striker Álvaro Rodríguez restored Elche’s advantage just six minutes later, punishing sloppy defending from Xabi Alonso’s side.
Once again, Madrid clawed their way back. Bellingham finished from close range to level the score at 2–2, but despite late pressure, the visitors couldn’t find a winner — leaving them winless in three straight matches.
