El-Rufai Petitions Police Service Commission, Accuses Kaduna Police Commissioner of Misconduct

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has petitioned the Police Service Commission (PSC), accusing the Kaduna State Commissioner of Police and some senior officers of gross misconduct and abuse of office.

In the petition, dated September 8, 2025, and addressed to the PSC Chairman, El-Rufai alleged that the Commissioner and the Kaduna Police Command engaged in “serial violations” of the Police Act 2020 and other regulations.

The petition follows a police summons dated September 4, 2025, signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police Uzainu Abdullahi, directing El-Rufai and six leaders of the Action Democratic Congress (ADC) to appear before the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID). The police linked the summons to allegations that the politicians used suspected hoodlums armed with cutlasses, clubs, and stones to attack people and destroy vehicles.

El-Rufai, however, dismissed the allegations, saying his petition was motivated by civic responsibility and concern for the integrity of the Nigeria Police Force. He urged the PSC to conduct an impartial and exhaustive investigation.

“I am writing as a citizen of Nigeria and former governor of Kaduna State to formally lodge this complaint and demand an immediate, impartial, and exhaustive investigation into the unlawful and unconstitutional conduct of the Commissioner of Police and some officers of the Kaduna State Police Command,” El-Rufai stated.

He added that citizens have a duty not only to support the police but also to hold them accountable, noting that the Commission must enforce discipline and promote ethical conduct.

El-Rufai further accused the Kaduna Police Command of intimidating opposition politicians in the state, calling on the PSC to urgently probe the allegations.

The petition comes amid heightened political tensions in Kaduna, with El-Rufai and ADC leaders facing police investigations over alleged conspiracy, incitement of unrest, and grievous harm.
