El-Rufai, Others Seek Tinubu’s Removal Out of Political Irrelevance – Onanuga

Presidential aide Bayo Onanuga has accused former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai and other opposition politicians of plotting to remove President Bola Ahmed Tinubu because they feel politically sidelined.
In a statement via his official X handle on Monday, Onanuga described their moves as hypocritical, noting that El-Rufai himself once admitted that four years is not enough for any political officeholder to achieve meaningful results.
According to him, President Tinubu has delivered measurable progress in less than two years despite inherited economic challenges.
“In contrast to the political laggards and underachievers who were once governors in Anambra, Rivers, and Kaduna, President Tinubu and his team have implemented meaningful changes over the past two years,” Onanuga wrote.
He highlighted Tinubu’s achievements, including:
- Foreign reserves reaching their highest in 44 months.
- The stock market creating over N26 trillion in new wealth.
- The All Share Index surging from 53,000 points to over 140,000 points.
- Exchange rate harmonisation and four consecutive months of reduced inflation.
- GDP growth by N103.5 trillion in two years.
- Balance of payment surpluses.
Onanuga also pointed to social interventions, citing the new NELFUND student loan scheme, direct cash transfers to vulnerable Nigerians, and increased federal allocations to states.
“Our national revenue has grown phenomenally and will hit new records with tax reforms. Governors are getting more money than ever before for capital projects and job creation. They themselves admitted they have never had it so good,” he added.
He accused El-Rufai and other opposition leaders of being “power-hungry politicians who have become politically irrelevant” and vowed that El-Rufai’s past remarks would be used against him during electioneering.
“May they never succeed in their plot against our nation and people,” Onanuga concluded.
