The Ekiti State Police Command has tightened security along all major borders and entry routes following recent bandit attacks in neighbouring Kwara and Kogi States.

With Ekiti sharing boundaries with both states, the command said the move was a proactive measure to prevent the infiltration of armed criminals into the state.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, disclosed in a statement that a joint security operation involving the Nigeria Police Force, Amotekun Corps, and other sister agencies has been activated across strategic locations.

According to Abutu, the deployment covers all major entry and exit points, highways, and rural flashpoints within Ekiti State. “Operatives from the Police Mobile Force, tactical and intelligence units, sister security agencies, and local outfits have been stationed across key areas to prevent the infiltration of criminal elements,” he said.

He assured residents that the increased security presence was preventive and aimed at maintaining peace, not creating panic. “The deployment is purely preventive. Citizens are urged to remain calm and continue their lawful activities,” Abutu added.

Abutu also stated that the Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph Eribo, had directed operatives to be civil and professional while carrying out their duties. He urged residents to cooperate with security agents and promptly report any suspicious movement or activity in their communities.

Clarifying speculations on social media, the police spokesperson noted that all officers deployed are from within Ekiti State, emphasizing that the operation is a locally coordinated effort to strengthen security and ensure the safety of residents.
