Ekiti Court Remands 45-Year-Old Man Over Alleged Defilement of Minor

A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ado-Ekiti has ordered the remand of a 45-year-old man, Mike Okoro, at the Ado-Ekiti Correctional Centre for the alleged defilement of a nine-year-old girl.
Okoro, whose address was not disclosed, was arraigned on Thursday by the police on a charge of rape.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Abiodun Bamidele, told the court that the incident occurred on September 3, 2025, in Ijesha Isu-Ekiti, where the defendant allegedly lured the minor, who had been sent on an errand by her mother, and sexually assaulted her.
Bamidele said the child later confided in her mother about the assault, which led to the suspect’s arrest. He requested that the defendant remain in custody pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), stressing that the offence violates Section 31 of the Ekiti State Child Rights Law, 2021.
Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun declined to take the defendant’s plea and ordered that the case file be forwarded to the DPP for review. The case was adjourned to October 10, 2025, for mention.
