The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has re-arrested controversial Lagos-based businessman, Fred Ajudua, following a Supreme Court ruling that revoked his bail.
According to The Punch, EFCC operatives apprehended Ajudua in Abuja on Tuesday, days after the apex court nullified the bail earlier granted by the Court of Appeal.
Ajudua is accused of defrauding a Palestinian businessman, Zad Abu Zalaf, of $1,043,000. He remains in EFCC custody ahead of his re-arraignment.
A senior EFCC official, who spoke anonymously, confirmed the arrest:
“We have arrested Ajudua pending his re-arraignment in court. He was arrested in Abuja on Tuesday, and he’s in our custody as we speak.”
EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale declined to comment on the development.
The Supreme Court, on Friday, May 5, 2025, upheld the EFCC’s appeal and overturned the September 10, 2018, bail granted to Ajudua by the Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal.
The original trial judge, Justice Dada, had refused bail in June 2018 due to the case’s complex and lengthy history. The case will now return to Justice Dada for continuation of trial, as ordered by the apex court.
With the bail revoked and his trial set to resume, Fred Ajudua faces fresh legal battles in connection to the high-profile $1 million fraud allegation.
