EFCC Questions Nollywood Star Iyabo Ojo Over Alleged Dollar Spraying at Daughter Priscilla’s Lavish Wedding to Tanzanian Singer Jux

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has interrogated popular Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo over alleged abuse of foreign and local currency during her daughter’s high-profile wedding ceremony in Lagos.

The event, which united Priscilla Ojo and Tanzanian singer Jux on April 17, 2025, following their earlier Islamic wedding in Tanzania, was one of the most talked-about weddings on social media. It drew a star-studded crowd from Nigeria and beyond and featured extravagant displays of wealth — including viral clips of guests spraying dollar bills and Naira notes.

EFCC Interrogation: Currency Abuse Allegations Surfac

In response to mounting speculation online, Iyabo Ojo confirmed via her Instagram page that she had honored the EFCC’s invitation for questioning shortly after the wedding.

“I was invited and interrogated by the EFCC,” Ojo stated. “They asked me about my biodata, business activities, and involvement in the event.”

According to her, the interrogation focused specifically on the alleged abuse of currency during the wedding, a violation under Nigerian financial laws.

“I was asked if I knew spraying money on people was illegal,” she explained. “I honestly thought the law only applied to mutilation of Naira, not dollar bills or other currencies. The EFCC clarified that spraying any currency—including U.S. dollars—is a punishable offense.”

Spraying Money Now Under Increased Scrutiny

The EFCC has recently intensified its crackdown on currency abuse at social events, especially celebrity weddings and parties. The practice of “money spraying,” though culturally popular in Nigeria, is considered illegal under the Central Bank of Nigeria’s anti-abuse policy on the Naira.

According to legal analysts, publicly spraying money, regardless of the currency, is seen as a form of currency defacement, undermining financial integrity and encouraging lawlessness in public spaces.

Wider Implications for Celebrities and Public Figures

The interrogation of Iyabo Ojo follows a growing trend of the EFCC inviting celebrities and high-profile individuals for questioning in connection with currency abuse and financial misconduct.

Analysts suggest the move may serve as a warning to entertainers and influencers, signaling zero tolerance for public violations of financial laws.

Awareness and Accountability on the Rise

While Iyabo Ojo’s cooperation with the EFCC was non-confrontational, the development underscores the need for greater public awareness of Nigeria’s financial laws — particularly as they relate to social gatherings and displays of wealth.

The actress concluded her statement by advising her followers and fans to be more informed:

“Let’s stay educated. What we don’t know can hurt us.”
