EFCC Arrests 55 for Alleged Internet Fraud in Ogun, Seizes Luxury Cars, Weapons, and Dozens of Mobile Phones
OGUN STATE — August 8, 2025: The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 55 suspects in connection with alleged cybercrime and internet fraud activities during a sting operation carried out in Itori, Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State.
Operatives from the Ibadan Zonal Directorate of the EFCC executed the raid on Wednesday, July 6, 2025, at K Hotel, following credible intelligence linking the suspects to a syndicate involved in cybercrimes.
During the operation, EFCC officers made significant seizures, including:
- Six luxury vehicles
- Two locally fabricated pistols
- One motorcycle
- Numerous laptops and mobile phones
- 89 unclaimed mobile phones suspected to be tools used in fraudulent activities
- Incriminating documents
According to the EFCC, the suspects are currently undergoing interrogation and have already provided valuable information aiding ongoing investigations.
“All suspects will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of thorough investigations,” the anti-graft agency stated.
The operation is part of the EFCC’s continued effort to combat cybercrime in Nigeria, especially among youth demographics in the South-West region.
The agency also reaffirmed its commitment to ridding the country of internet fraud, often referred to as “Yahoo Yahoo,” which has seen a surge in recent years.
