A young woman in Edo State is battling for her life after reportedly being attacked with a corrosive substance by her boyfriend, Timothy Gilbert, who has since gone into hiding. The incident occurred over the weekend in the Amufi area of Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area.
Her lawyer, John Izegaegbe, confirmed on Monday that the assault left Angela Ogah with severe burns, prompting the filing of a formal petition to Edo State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, demanding urgent action to apprehend the suspect.
Ogah is receiving treatment at a private hospital, where medical staff are working to stabilize her critical condition. She was reportedly unable to speak during a recent visit from journalists due to the severity of her injuries.
Izegaegbe urged law enforcement to intensify efforts to capture the fleeing assailant.
“We want the suspect arrested as quickly as possible. The victim is in unbearable pain. She could barely speak when journalists visited her. Gilbert fled after attacking her with a substance suspected to be acid. We are calling on the authorities to ensure he is tracked down without delay,” he said.
Police are continuing the manhunt, and updates are expected as investigations progress.
