Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have reportedly killed Tahir Abu Emhoye, one of two doctors abducted on January 1, 2026, in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State.

The duo was seized at approximately 7:30 p.m. along City Pride Road, Igbira Camp, outside their residence as they returned home from work.

The deceased, a recent medical graduate from Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, was the younger brother of Abu Ibrahim Babatunde, who is currently serving his housemanship at Edo University Teaching Hospital, Auchi.

According to reports, the kidnappers contacted the family on January 3, demanding N200 million for the release of both doctors.

A viral video shared on the Auchi Blog and Services Facebook page by Ismail Egbomiade claimed that the deceased, a former Director of Sports at the AAU Students’ Union Government, had been killed and his body dumped near a river. Security operatives combing the surrounding forests and bushes later recovered the lifeless body.

The Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, confirmed the incident, stating that the body was found by the riverside and identified by family members as one of the abducted doctors.
