The Edo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo, has dismissed remarks made by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, regarding his stance on the upcoming September 21 election. Wike had recently stated that he would not be supporting Ighodalo in the race.
During an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Ighodalo expressed disappointment in Wike’s comments, explaining that they contradicted the discussions they had in private. “Sometimes when gentlemen talk in private, we don’t voice out what has been said… That’s incorrect,” Ighodalo remarked, rejecting Wike’s claims.
Wike had publicly shared that he informed Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki and Ighodalo that he would not back Ighodalo due to past experiences where his support went unreciprocated. Despite this, Ighodalo remained unfazed, stressing that the decision on who will govern Edo State ultimately lies with the electorate.
“The decision as to who becomes the next governor of Edo State is the decision of the people… I fear no man, I only fear God,” Ighodalo declared confidently, signaling his trust in the democratic process and the will of the Edo citizens.
As the gubernatorial race intensifies, the spotlight remains on the upcoming election, with Ighodalo standing firm in his belief that the people will make the final call on their future leadership.
