The All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership in Edo State has announced that any commissioner denied access to the State Executive Council meeting for failing to wear the mandated “Asiwaju cap” will face suspension from the party.
This follows the directive issued on October 14 by Governor Monday Okpebholo during the swearing-in of newly approved commissioners and the inauguration of state boards, where he required cabinet members to show visible support for President Bola Tinubu through party-branded apparel.
Edo APC Chairman, Jarrett Tenebe, criticized those refusing to comply, describing their actions as disloyal and unacceptable. He emphasized that the party would not accommodate behavior that undermines unity or the governor’s authority.
Tenebe stated that wearing the cap symbolizes allegiance to President Tinubu and aligns with the state party’s commitment to delivering 3.5 million votes for him in future elections. According to him, anyone entrusted with public office through the APC must demonstrate absolute loyalty.
He added that individuals opposing the directive do not reflect the values of the party, asserting that only those who adhere to the governor’s instruction would be allowed to remain part of the Executive Council.
