Eden Hazard’s market value falls through the floor as he faces the worst moments in his career
Eden Hazard looked to the Madrid sky and made a pledge to his fans during the celebration of his side’s 14th Champions League title at the Santiago Bernabeu in January.
“Madridistas, I’ve been here for three years with many injuries, with many things going on…. But next year I’m going to give everything for you,” he promised
His words clearly touched his teammates and received a rapture of applause from a large part of the Real Madrid contingent whose optimism of a return to his flying form years before is beginning to dwindle.
The Belgian ’10’ arrived at Real Madrid as the most expensive signing in its history (100 million euros) and after almost four years, Hazard is going through one of the worst moments of his entire professional career
His lack of minutes this season (296′ between Champions League, League and Cup campaigns) has caused his market value to plummet
At 32 years of age, the Belgian player’s value has bottomed out at 5 million after crashing by 2.5 million in Transfermarkt’s latest update.
When he signed for the European giants his market value was 150 million euros.
Damning Real Madrid statistics
“I’ve always said, I’m going to get back to the way I was by stringing together games and minutes,” he said after a match with the Belgium national side.
Hazard’s Real Madrid reality paints a different picture. This season, for which Eden pledged his resurgence, he has only played 296 minutes: 131′ in the Champions League (one goal and one assist), 98′ in LaLiga and 67′ in the Copa del Rey.
The Belgian winger has gone 20 consecutive games without playing a single minute for Real Madrid (he has missed six due to injury).
In an interview with RTBF in Belgium, Hazard reflected on his current situation at Real Madrid.
“I want to have fun on the pitch,” Hazard said. “Training is good, but it’s the matches that keep us alive.
“I hope I can contribute something and that the coach continues to count on me, hopefully.
“We’ll see if I can play some minutes at the end of the season. It’s up to me to show him in training that he can count on me.”
Hazard’s sizeable salary
As reported by Deportes CUATRO, the Belgian star takes home a salary of 15 million euros per season, which makes him the highest earning player in LaLiga, ahead of the likes Lewandowski, Griezmann and Benzema.
His pay packet works out at 1.25 million euros per month, 292,000 euros per week and around 42,000 euros per day
