The announcement was made through an official statement issued from the Government House in Makurdi, granting residents and civil servants across the state ample time to observe the Easter Triduum—a sacred period of reflection, sacrifice, and renewal for Christians worldwide.
Governor Alia, a Catholic priest-turned-political leader, emphasized the significance of Easter in the Christian calendar, describing it as a time for spiritual rebirth, hope, and family unity. He noted that the state’s decision to approve the three-day holiday reflects its deep respect for religious observance and its commitment to the spiritual wellbeing of its citizens.
“All government ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) will remain closed during this period,” the statement read. “We encourage all residents to use the time for reflection, prayer, and quality time with loved ones.”
Governor Alia extended warm Easter greetings to Christians within Benue and beyond, praying that the holy season ushers in peace, unity, and a renewed sense of service to community and faith.
He urged citizens to remain resilient and faithful, and to emerge from the Easter season with fresh energy to contribute to the development of a greater Benue State.
