Don Jazzy Explains Why He Left Car with UK Police After Impound

Nigerian music producer and executive Don Jazzy has addressed a long-standing story about a police incident in the United Kingdom from early in his career.
The issue resurfaced after his former associate, Bankulli, claimed at a recent event that Don Jazzy evaded the police following a car accident in London, allegedly removing the vehicle’s number plate and fleeing the scene.
Bankulli said:
“He had an accident coming back from a show, the car got wrecked. He left the car, removed the plate number, and ran. It was cheaper to abandon the car than pay to retrieve it.”
The revelation sparked reactions on social media, with some users joking that the case could be reopened if Don Jazzy visited the UK today.
In response, Don Jazzy clarified that he did not run from the police. He explained that he actually waited for authorities, who administered a breathalyser test to check if he had been drinking. After confirming he was sober, the car was impounded.
He abandoned the vehicle with the police because the fine to recover it exceeded the car’s value.
“Lol no panic. It’s been so long, so he doesn’t remember the story exactly. I waited for the police. They came and gave me a breathalyser to determine if I was drunk. I wasn’t, but the car was impounded. The fine to collect the car back was more than the cheap car, so I left it with them lol,” Don Jazzy clarified.
The producer’s explanation puts to rest claims that he deliberately fled the law, offering a humorous reflection on his early struggles in London before his rise to global stardom.
