A teenage boy, identified as Chike, reportedly travelled from Delta State to Lagos to visit a friend, but was shot dead by suspected cultists in the Ikotun area of Lagos State.
The incident occurred on Sunday while Chike and his friend had gone to withdraw cash from a Point-of-Sale (PoS) outlet. Eyewitness Abiodun recounted that a group of young men confronted the pair, spoke briefly, and then opened fire at close range before fleeing the scene.
“He had just returned from a PoS outlet with his friend when some boys stopped them. They spoke for a moment, and one of them suddenly shot him,” Abiodun said. “He died instantly, while his friend was unharmed.”
The attack caused panic among local residents, and photos from the scene showed the teenager lying lifeless shortly after the shooting.
An anti-cult advocacy group suggested that the killing may have been cult-related, claiming the assailants demanded valuables from the victim before shooting him. The platform reported that Chike, also known as “Ejanla,” had travelled from Asaba, Delta State, to Ikotun to see a friend.
According to the group, witnesses said the attackers shouted “Haba-Krier” before and after the shooting. They also claimed that Chike attempted to hand over cash and gold items, but the assailants shot him anyway and escaped.
Efforts to reach the Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, were unsuccessful as calls and messages were not returned at the time of reporting.
