Dele Momodu Quits PDP, Joins ADC Over Alleged Hijack by Antidemocratic Forces

Veteran journalist and former presidential aspirant, Chief Dele Momodu, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the party’s alleged takeover by antidemocratic forces. Momodu has now joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking a significant political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a resignation letter dated July 17, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Ward 4 Chairman in Ihievbe, Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State, Momodu declared his immediate withdrawal from the party.

“My reason is clear and direct,” he wrote. “Our party has undeniably been seized by antidemocratic elements, both from within and without, in broad daylight.”

He added, “It is therefore honorable to relinquish the remains of the party to them while the majority of us earnestly align with the new coalition party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC).”

Momodu, publisher of Ovation International and a prominent figure in Nigeria’s media and political landscape, thanked the ward leadership for their long-standing support and loyalty throughout his time in the PDP.

Having joined the PDP in 2021, Momodu played an active role in shaping party discourse and participating in national conversations. His decision to defect follows a wave of high-profile exits from the PDP, as several members express growing dissatisfaction with the party’s internal crisis and leadership struggles.

His move to the ADC is expected to further reshape the political dynamics in Edo State and influence opposition strategies nationwide as the 2027 elections draw closer.
