The Dangote Group has reacted to the death of Ruth Otabor, younger sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Phyna, stating that arrangements were already being made to fly her to India for advanced medical treatment before her passing.

Ruth died on Sunday after suffering complications from injuries sustained in an accident involving a Dangote Cement truck in Auchi, Edo State. The accident had led to the amputation of her legs before her eventual death.

In a condolence statement released via its official X account, Dangote Group expressed deep sorrow over her death and extended sympathy to the Otabor family.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Ruth Otabor, who was injured in the recent road incident involving one of our trucks in Auchi, Edo State. On behalf of the entire Dangote Group, we extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and loved ones at this difficult time,” the statement read.

The company explained that since the accident, its officials and insurance partners had been covering all medical expenses and providing support to Ruth and her family. It added that plans to fly her to India for treatment had been finalized but were awaiting medical clearance from her doctors.

The development comes after Phyna alleged that Dangote Group failed to fulfill its promise to fly her late sister abroad for treatment.

Ruth’s death has sparked renewed attention to road safety concerns involving heavy-duty trucks in Nigeria, as well as the responsibilities of corporate organizations in supporting victims of such accidents.
