Nigerian police authorities have confirmed that controversial crossdresser, Okuneye Idris, better known as Bobrisky, was transferred to the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Lagos after spending a night in detention.
A police source revealed that Bobrisky had been held in a cell at the police facility while further directives were being awaited regarding his case, according to a report by PUNCH. The crossdresser was taken into custody by officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) while attempting to leave the country through the Seme border.
The source disclosed, “Bobrisky was brought to the FCID, Alagbon, around 10 p.m. on Monday. Immigration officers arrested him at the Seme border and brought him to the FCID for safekeeping. He is still in detention, and further actions are being awaited.”
The FCID spokesperson, Mayegun Aminat, confirmed Bobrisky’s detention during a conversation with PUNCH on Tuesday, saying, “He is detained at FCID Alagbon. We are working on securing a remand order to keep him in custody today.”
NIS spokesperson Kenneth Udo also confirmed Bobrisky’s arrest, stating that the crossdresser had become a person of interest over recent public concerns.
“In keeping with its commitment to securing the borders, Nigeria Immigration Service intercepted Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, otherwise known as Bobrisky, at the Seme border during his attempt to exit the country. He is undergoing interrogation and will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further action,” Udo said in a statement on Monday.
Udo reassured the public of the NIS’ professionalism, adding, “The Service remains committed to its statutory responsibilities and will continue to be civil and professional in manning the country’s borders.”
Bobrisky’s attempted escape to the Benin Republic on Monday morning was foiled, leading to his arrest, and he is currently under interrogation as authorities determine the next steps in his case.
