Cristiano Ronaldo would lower his salary to join Atletico Madrid
July 23,2022
Cristiano Ronaldo wants to leave Manchester United. The Portuguese striker is looking for a team with which he can play in the Champions League and more and more rumours and reports are pointing to Atletico Madrid as a possible destination.
However, his exit is not so easy. On the one hand, Manchester United do not want to allow their top player to leave in this transfer market. At least that is what their coach Erik ten Hag suggested when he was asked about it.
However, it is striking that Ronaldo has not attended the pre-season tour with Manchester United. A dispute that only heightens the tension in what is set to be one of the summer’s ‘soap operas’.
“The situation is the same as last week. Maybe worried is not the right word. I’m focusing on the players who are here, who are doing very well, who are in good shape and I will focus on that,” Ten Hag declared.
“I can’t wait to see if Ronaldo comes, but if he does, we will integrate him into the team.”
The other problem would be the Portuguese’s salary. According to Ben Jacobs, the striker receives a salary of 435,000 euros a week, an amount difficult for many teams to afford.
However, the same journalist reveals that Ronaldo would be willing to reduce his salary by up to 30 percent to join Atletico Madrid.
His arrival at Atletico Madrid is difficult
Even so, his high salary at Manchester United (31 million euros gross per year) prevent the player from joining Atletico Madrid even with this cut, as MARCA reported.
Clubs like Chelsea, PSG or Real Madrid have already closed the door to a possible arrival of the Portuguese player. Atletico Madrid are one of the teams that have shown interest, but everything points to the fact that the player will have to make even more economic concessions.
