CREDIT SUISSE HONOURS DR PRECIOUS MOLOI-MOTSEPE AS A WOMAN OF IMPACT
SANDTON, 28 MAY 2022.
THE WOMEN OF IMPACT DINNER, an annual event hosted by Credit Suisse at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, honoured Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe as an extraordinary woman who is making change happen in the world. The intimate dinner held on Tuesday 24 May brought together the top tier of women leaders in attendance at WEF to celebrate the achievements of the Co-Founder and CEO of the Motsepe Foundation, Dr Moloi-Motsepe, alongside Geetha Murali who is the CEO of Room to Read and TIME Woman of the Year Amanda Nguyen. The Women of Impact Dinner is a platform for changemaking women to share their stories of overcoming tremendous odds to achieve incredible feats. Inspired by her mother to pursue a career in medicine, Dr Moloi-Motsepe wears different hats as a businesswoman, philanthropist, and Chancellor of the University of Cape Town. Her humanitarian efforts have supported over 300,000 people with infrastructure in low-income communities, and over 2,000 students in their access to higher education in South Africa, as well as education at Harvard and Georgetown University. Through her company African Fashion International, she has pioneered a pan-African fashion platform, which has supported the growth of over 200 designers, including young and emerging fashion designers who have since reached international acclaim. In 2017, she was honoured for her work in fashion and development, receiving the Franca Sozzani award in New York. Despite inclusive growth being a central theme underpinning the annual WEF meetings, delegate representation at WEF is below a 30% critical mass for women. The Credit Suisse platform aims to spread the good ideas of their honourees to an audience of influential women who can scale their progress across different parts of the world. “I am blessed to wear various hats in my professional and personal life. I have never allowed myself to be boxed into any role. Now, I see the value of this multifaceted path. I am in a privileged position to bring together a diverse group of people: from business, governments, and civil society to build consensus on complicated issues” Dr Moloi-Motsepe said during her remarks. Leveraging her multidisciplinary approach to healing, she is on a mission to deepen connections amongst different sectors and create decision-making spaces for diverse voices.
