The Federal High Court in Abuja has delayed its ruling in a case seeking to stop David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola from acting as leaders of the African Democratic Congress, shifting the judgment date to April 14.
The decision, initially expected on April 13, was moved by Justice Musa Suleiman Liman due to other official commitments. The adjournment was announced by a court registrar to lawyers, politicians, and observers who had gathered early in anticipation of the ruling.
The case was filed by Leke Abejide, a member of the House of Representatives from Kogi State, who is challenging the legitimacy of the party’s current leadership structure.
In the suit, Abejide is asking the court to nullify the transfer of leadership from former ADC chairman Ralph Nwosu to Mark and Aregbesola, describing the move as unlawful and inconsistent with party rules and the Electoral Act 2022.
He is also seeking a court order to permanently restrain both men from presenting themselves as interim national chairman and secretary of the party. Additionally, the suit urges the Independent National Electoral Commission not to recognise them in those capacities.
Legal teams representing both sides had earlier adopted their arguments before the court fixed a date for judgment, which has now been postponed.
The case has drawn significant political attention, as its outcome could reshape the leadership structure of the ADC ahead of future electoral activities.
