Collapsed and Forgotten: Sokoto’s Wurno GSS Clinic in Ruins, Patients Left Helpless

By SpringNews

Wurno Government Secondary School Clinic in Sokoto State stands as a crumbling relic, where healthcare has all but disappeared. With no beds for the sick, no water for sanitation, and no electricity to power basic equipment, the facility is a shadow of what it should be. The roof sags under neglect, the toilets are unusable, and the lack of a perimeter fence leaves the dilapidated structure vulnerable.

Serving three communities and over 300 patients annually, this clinic is on the brink of collapse, abandoned by those responsible for its upkeep.

Stepping inside only deepens the despair. Patients arrive to find no hospital beds, no waiting area, and an empty pharmacy. Shelves that should hold syringes, bandages, gloves, and disinfectants remain bare. A single doctor and a lone Community Health Extension Worker (CHEW) struggle to provide care, but without resources, their efforts are futile. Leaking roofs soak decaying medical records, broken ceilings threaten to cave in, and the entire building feels like a health hazard.

Care here isn’t just inadequate—it’s almost nonexistent.

CheckMyPHC, a civic-tech tool from Orodata Science, exposes Wurno GSS Clinic as a grim symbol of Nigeria’s rural healthcare crisis. With no functional infrastructure, patients are forced to travel to distant hospitals already overwhelmed with demand. Immunization efforts are crumbling, and basic treatment is a luxury few can afford. Health in this community is nothing short of a gamble.

This is more than a failing clinic—it’s a community left abandoned.

Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto of Sokoto State, Chairman of Wurno Local Government Honorable Abba Isah Sadiq Achida—this is your community, these are your people.

Their healthcare facility is in ruins, and their lives are in danger. Rebuild Wurno GSS Clinic. Provide clean water, electricity, medical supplies, and essential personnel.

Restore dignity and hope to those who need it most. This is not just a request—it is an urgent necessity. Act now.” Orodata implores.
