Chelsea Transfer Update: Axel Disasi Determined to Fight for First-Team Comeback Under Enzo Maresca
The 27-year-old France international has not featured in pre-season or the early weeks of the 2025/26 campaign, instead training with Chelsea’s so-called ‘bomb squad’ — players deemed surplus to requirements. He was also left out of both the Premier League and Champions League squads, further signaling his uncertain future.
Disasi, who made 61 appearances for Chelsea between August 2023 and January 2026, spent the latter part of last season on loan at Aston Villa after falling out of favor. Despite offers from Bournemouth and West Ham United in the summer, he opted to stay and fight for his place.
According to BBC Sport, Disasi remains “ready and willing” to seize any opportunity to impress Maresca. His hopes may have been boosted by injuries within Chelsea’s backline, including Levi Colwill’s long-term absence, which could leave Maresca short of options later in the season.
While a full Premier League return appears unlikely, the Frenchman may feature in domestic cup competitions such as the EFL Cup, where Maresca could look to rotate his squad after Chelsea’s Club World Cup exertions.
With young defenders Mamadou Sarr (on loan at Strasbourg) and Aaron Anselmino (on loan at Borussia Dortmund) unlikely to return until January, Disasi may yet find himself back in contention if circumstances force Maresca’s hand.
For now, the ex-Monaco star is focused on staying sharp in training and proving he still has a role to play in Chelsea’s campaign.
