Chelsea Edge Wolves 4–3 in Seven-Goal EFL Cup Thriller to Reach Quarter-Finals

Chelsea survived a dramatic second-half comeback to defeat Wolverhampton Wanderers 4–3 at Molineux Stadium on Wednesday night, booking their place in the EFL Cup quarter-finals after a thrilling seven-goal contest.
The Blues stormed into a commanding first-half lead through goals from Andrey Santos, Tyrique George, and Estevao, giving manager Enzo Maresca’s men a 3–0 cushion at the break.
However, Wolves fought back impressively after the restart. Tolu Arokodare pulled one back early in the second half before David Moller Wolfe reduced the deficit further in the 73rd minute, setting up a tense finale.
Chelsea were dealt a blow late on when Liam Delap was shown a second yellow card for an elbow, leaving the visitors with ten men. But substitute Jamie Gittens restored their two-goal advantage in the 89th minute with a composed finish.
Wolfe grabbed his second goal in stoppage time to make it 4–3, but Wolves’ late rally wasn’t enough as Chelsea held on to secure their progression.
The result was a welcome boost for Chelsea after their shock Premier League defeat to Sunderland at Stamford Bridge last weekend. Maresca rotated his squad heavily, giving several young players a chance — and they delivered. Santos and Estevao were outstanding in midfield and attack respectively, while Gittens turned in his best performance yet in a Chelsea shirt, registering two assists and a goal.
For Wolves, it was another night of frustration. Despite a spirited second-half display, their defensive lapses in the opening 45 minutes proved costly.
Man of the Match — Jamie Gittens
The 21-year-old winger shone throughout, contributing one goal, two assists, and five successful dribbles. His pace and creativity were constant threats, and his late strike sealed Chelsea’s hard-fought win.
