Chaos at Lagos High Court as Lawyer Reportedly Attacks Female Judicial Officer After Minor Car Incident

There was tension at the Lagos State High Court on Wednesday after a lawyer, identified as Obinna Okereke, Principal Partner of High Refuge Attorneys, allegedly assaulted a female judicial officer, Temilola Ossai, following a minor accident involving his vehicle.
The incident reportedly happened near the entrance of the court premises when Okereke, who was driving a champagne gold Toyota Sienna, accidentally brushed Ossai, a staff member of the Lagos State Judiciary, as she walked by the roadside.
Eyewitnesses said the confrontation began after Ossai demanded an apology for the minor collision. Instead of apologizing, Okereke allegedly became furious, verbally insulted her, and then physically attacked her, punching her repeatedly in the face.
The violent assault left Ossai bleeding from her nose and mouth, shocking bystanders and causing chaos around the court’s entrance. Security officers attached to the Lagos State Judiciary quickly intervened, restraining and arresting the lawyer to prevent further escalation.
An eyewitness recounted the incident, saying, “The woman only asked for an apology. The next thing, he started shouting and then hit her multiple times. Blood was pouring from her face—it was unbelievable.”
The confrontation briefly disrupted court proceedings as staff and visitors gathered at the scene in disbelief.
Judiciary sources confirmed that the Chief Registrar of the Lagos State Judiciary has directed that a formal complaint be lodged at the Area F Police Command for a full investigation and possible prosecution of the lawyer.
Attempts to reach Okereke for comment were unsuccessful as of press time. Ossai was immediately given first aid treatment following the incident.
